Teeth whitening and porcelain veneers are popular cosmetic dental services with little in common except this: They both can restore brilliance to your smile.

Professional teeth whitening and veneers are available here at Ardsley Dental Spa in Ardsley, New York, but which one is right for you?

Dr. Hinna Chaudhry helps determine the best solution for you during your consultation. She reviews your aesthetic goals, examines your mouth, and analyzes digital dental X-rays using the Dexis™ system before making a recommendation.

In the meantime, here are some general guidelines to consider when weighing teeth whitening vs. veneers.

About professional teeth whitening

Many products can help lift stains from your teeth, but not all deliver the same results. Professional-grade teeth whitening treatments use higher-quality and stronger whitening agents that are more effective and efficient.

Thanks to the power of these whitening agents and a special light to accelerate the process, you can expect to see dazzling results in just about 45 minutes.

When to consider teeth whitening

Teeth whitening might be right for you if:

  • You have realistic expectations of what teeth whitening can do
  • You don’t have permanent stains
  • You have extrinsic stains
  • You want a faster solution
  • You’re committed to at-home oral care to help maintain your results
  • You don’t want to undergo the process for veneers

Dr. Chaudhry offers in-office and take-home whitening treatments. Both can help lift stains.

About veneers

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that cover the fronts of your teeth. Each aspect is customizable, from the shade of the veneers to the shape and size.

Getting veneers requires a few appointments. After Dr. Chaudry determines that veneers are right for you, she prepares your teeth by removing a thin layer of enamel, takes impressions of your teeth, and places a set of temporary veneers.

Once your permanent veneers are ready, you return to our office where we remove your temporary veneers and secure your permanent ones.

Because some of your enamel has been removed, you’ll always need to use veneers. The process takes longer than in-office whitening treatments, but the results are long-lasting.

When to consider veneers

Like tooth whitening treatments, veneers can brighten your smile. That’s because we can select the shade of your veneers. However, veneers can do a lot more. Veneers can:

  • Enhance the shape of your teeth
  • Hide small gaps and chips
  • Correct the appearance of too-small teeth
  • Correct the appearance of a gummy smile

Veneers can also hide stains impervious to other whitening treatments.

Although veneers require a greater commitment, you might consider veneers if you want to correct multiple cosmetic issues with one treatment.

Get started with a consultation

The good news is you don’t have to decide between teeth whitening and veneers on your own. When you schedule your appointment with Dr. Chaudry, we review your goals and give you an opportunity to ask questions about your options.
